Yep, those be the VM style. As seen in the pic TC posted, the BS have a totla of 6 holes. That will make the difference. Which is why I asked about the jets. Alot fo folks have fought these carbs for 15 rounds against Iron mike trying to tune them only to find the wrong jets.

TC is usually right on the money. Based upon what you have said, I think we can take a ride next time I get up there.

Next time your out there at drag 42, if you see a red 66 Olds Cutlas running in the low 10s, see if the owner is named Smitty. If so, tell him 84Olds says hello. Used to chat with him at Oldsracersonline. He knows more about olds and building a 455 than most people forget about everything else in their lives. And one cool dude to.

I just put in the bs jets yesterday and what a differance!!!!
I let it idle and pulled a plug and no black soot. I took it for a ride and it ran fantastic, just a little backfire down low. I stopped for gas and it wouldnt start. It sat for so long my battery is dead. I am going to charge tonight. Could a bad battery make it backfire down low? Thanks agin for all your help on here. Dx looks like when you get up this way we can go for a ride. Thanks again!!!!!!

          Easy to like it now??

Soooo...how easy is it to like this bike now??

          Glad you got it corrected!!

As to the battery, these bikes actually run off the battery and let the alternator recharge it as you go, so no battery= not run. It also means that if your battery is in bad shape, it can make it die.

I would suspect the backfire down low is on deceleration? OR perhaps you are running lean now in the low end RPM and need to open up your mixture screws a little.

Its easy to like it when it runs good!!!!!
Thanks so much for your help. I am charging the battery now and if it wont hold a charge I will get a new battery tomarrow.
When the bike is running should the volts go up whn the rpms go up? Also what should a volt meter read when its running? Thanks again. Looks like you may have to get up here for a ride or ill get down south to you

Awesome, glad your enjoying the beast!!

When the bike is idling, you should read about 12 volts at the battery, when reved up to 3-4k is should read about 14 volts IIRC.

Not sure I will get up that way before the weather turns. We have a somewhat local group here called SWOXS that may be getting a group ride together in the next few weeks or so. Kind of a haul for you, but your certainly wlecome.

DGXSER ~ You are a perfect example of what makes this forum so super. I'm new here, but have already gained a great deal of information and practical knowledge from reading these pages.

I'd love to ride down from Pittsburgh for one of your workshops. My bike is running great and has no issues (that I know of) but although I have no mechanical skills, I'd be happy to be assigned grunt work to help out where I could.

Please let me know when you are getting together again and I will try to attend, I'd like to meet some of the XS'ers who have made this forum such a great place to visit.

Hey, give me a call out on that too! As I said my bike is running great, but my only reference is an SR500 that also runs great, so my 1100 could only be running on two cylinders and it would seem good to me.

A gear-head friend put a shot of octane booster in my tank when I was visiting him (showing off my new ride) and said "try this". I told him I could probably fill it with diesel fuel and it would still be awesome.

I didn't notice any difference from the octane booster, and I have decided to try running 87 octane in it to see if that matters much to this bike.

                    Hey Mad Dog.

We always welcome another member to the group for the SWOXS rides. Will keep you all informed. Need to figure out which of the Rally sections SW Ohio fits into so we can post it there.

As to the octane rating, alot smarter folks than me have stated that the higher octane gas does nothing to help our bikes. My own experiences to date support that theory. So, I would not expect that the octane boost would have done you any good.

Honestly, although some here may and probably will disagree, for most of us, I doubt you could use any more power than these bikes can produce. They certainly have enough to kill me if I am not REALLY respectful of it.
