  • Rough Start/Backfire

I just swapped the stock ingnition coils for a set of Mike's XS Green Coils.

When starting for the first time, it took a while to turn over. When it did finally turn over, it is constantly backfiriing (more the right than the left), and idiling very rough.

I checked the plugs and they are all getting spark.

The ballast resistor was removed too.

There was just another thread just like this. Verify you did not cross up the wires to the coils. Switch the orange and grey wires between coils and try again.

And now I see it was your other thread on the same issue. Glad it solved the problem. Phil is a very smart guy!

I tried deleting this one, but couldn't, thanks for the reponse.

Phil gets my vote, for sure!!

This is the greatest site on the planet as far as I'm concerned.

I had less than no mechanical experience when purchasing this bike, but with a little determination, patience and this site, I'm confident I will get there.

Yep, I have certainly jumped into the machine MUCH deeper than I would have thought I could with the help of XS11. I have had engines down to the black and back together before but trannys have always befudled me for some reason. Heck, now I feel like I can do the dremel repair in about one day total work.

And in my defense, I have seen the effect of getting those wires crossed and recognized the symptoms, but Phil is still one smart cookie!
