  • NOS 1st OS rings

I just bought a set of piston rings off ebay.$34 for all four sets!
So I am going to install them in my bike.I already have my cylinders off.
I have very little wear in the cylinders and 40,000 miles on the bike.
    I had a little smoking.
Should I just hone it or will I have to bore.It is only approximately .01 over stock, but that seems like a lot to hone out.I haven,t measured the cylinders yet,I'll do that tonight.

If you use standard pistons, the OS rings will be larger and will need filing down where the ends meet, but you probably know that anyway.
I have just re-rung an FJ motor about 3000 miles ago, but used standard size rings and didn't hone the bores, and have had no ill effects.

I just redid the top end of mine, in May, and used 1st over rings.

You just have to use the method, in the manual, for checking end gap, and file them until you have the minimum end gap clearance.

However, you won't be able to use the new oil rings as they are designed on a different circle diameter. I had to reuse my old oil rings. If yours are in good shape, you should be able to reuse them as well.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
