  • Anyone wanna swap a Standard Tkat fork brace for my Special Tkat fork brace?

I am trying to finish up replacing my special front end with a standard, getting my bike completely back to standard...but now I find that my special fork brace won't even fit It took me a looong time to get a Tkat brace and now that I know what I'll be missing, I don't wait even longer :/

Soooo, if anyone has a Standard Tkat Fork brace and wants to swap for a Special brace, let me know! The brace has never been involved in any type of accident, but one side has gotten a little coated in fork oil (the reason I am swapping front ends is b/c my forks and triple tree are shot). I cleaned it up, looks pretty good.

I have the same problem, I didn't know there was a differance on the braces. I thought the fork legs were the same at the top. Anyway I'm bidding on one on eBay right now.

    Geezer.

I thought that the only difference between the 2 types of brace was the offset in the brace itself to clear the fender on the special.

          Sell 'em man!

I don't think it would be very hard to sell the one you got. Just list it on the classifieds. That is unless you think ya might build a special some day. Tkat won"t be makin' 'em forever and man they sure do make a differance.

The braces that Merriam Cycle sells look just like the TKat brace..... but they want twice the money for them.

I just removed the fork brace from the 80 Special I took in trade over the weekend. It's the right with and looks like the right height but the clamps are too big for the 79 standard that I tried them on.

I have another 79 Standard that has an 80 Standard front end on it. I’m going to try it on that bike in day or two.

This fork brace is unlike any other I’ve seen. It’s a TeleFix brand and it 4 screws on each side clamp and it’s a adjustable for width. The real interesting part is that it take all the surface where the fork dust seal goes and the brace has it’s own mount for the dust seals. It’s a very nice part if it would only fit the bike I want to use it on. (

Jeff: that is because Merriam Cycle sells Tkat fork braces at twice the price Tkat does.

I just mentioned it because they apparently bought a stock of them from TKat and when he runs out or stops making them..... there might still be a source...... at a premium of course.

Mr. Hobbitt took the fork brace off my hands and I am now the happy owner of a standard fork brace
