I use a borrowed borescope when inspecting the tubes on water chillers. Would at least let you see the cylinder walls without tearing it down.
Thought I had seen a handheld one on sale, maybe HF?

I think Kirmit77 might have a spare set of pistons & cylinders as well.

Yep. I have looked into an engine with a boroscope. BTW, if you do this after the engine has been running, the boroscope gets hot. DAMHIK.

          Tod,

I will ask my bud if he wants to come down this weekend. I'm sure he will. He was exstatic that it broke loose. Do you think it's a necessity to take the jugs off? How many gaskets do we need? If they are jacked up what do we do about it? Do we have to bore it out or can we just clean it up?

(Kirmit thanks for the offer too. You get yours going?)

Well crap.. I hadn't heard anything back from you. It looks like I'm going to have to work tomorrow.

As far as the bike, you'd just have to take off the exhaust, carbs, and cams, and tensioner. We can make a gasket for the tensioner (I may even have one) and I have a few valve cover gaskets and a couple stock head gaskets I'd let go cheaper than he could find somewhere else. But no, you don't have to remove the cylinders.. unless they are messed up from the rust. I have a little tool thing that I made to get those stubborn suckers off if they need it.

So.. sorry I'll have to renig my offer for this weekend, but I could probably make it up there during the week next week if needed.

In the mean time, you could do a compression check to see if breaking it loose broke a ring.
