It's early... so please forgive me if I misinterpret your post.
But if you're looking for a diagram of the carbs... you can try the Yamaha microfiche here:

I think they're just about all the same actually. There's one in your Clymer's manual or here and other than the Yamaha fiche there's
Bike Bandit
CMSNL
...and I thought there was one more in my arsenal of links but I'm tired, haha HTHJosh Yoquelet -- I'm having dreams of my XS

There are differences between the earlier model carbs and the later model carbs that require the earlier models to run larger mains (as well as other subtle differences... some have adjustable needles, while others don't).
But if you were talking about the basic just putting them together idea... yep... they are pretty much the same...81 SH Something Special

Has anyone noticed this ???
Xsample
79F carbs (BS34 II)
2H7-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER EXCLUSIVE FOR CARBURETOR 4
2A2-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER 3 2
2G2-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER EXCLUSIVE FOR CARBURETOR 1
81H (BS34 III)
4G1-14981-05-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER
3U6-14981-05-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER
3U7-14981-05-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER
3W8-14981-05-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER
I've worked on II's and III's a few times
"inspected" the float bowls and have found that there are some that will have different markings on the same set which I gather is meant to distinguish them from each other. Also have seen no discernable marks on other sets so have no idea how to determine which is which or if they were all the same. I've also purposely moved em around and could not tell any difference in how the engine ran. (could be I'm just not sensitive enough ? Missed three classes in my sensitivity training )
Most likely difference is the jet in the bowl itself...

I have noted that as float bowls go, the 78-79 and I believe the 80 models have the same drain on them. 80 might be different. The 81 models though had the drain screw going horizontal with a drain vertical outlet so you can put a tube on it. Thus the reason the Clymers manual suggest checking the float level on the bike, with bike leveled and using the drain tube, but only on the 81 model XS. IIRC, the drain screws point in different directions for 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 so they do not interchange.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
