  • Sluggish Acceleration 1979 xs1100

    Hi All
Well the bike has been serviced
    new oil, filters, plugs etc.
Starts & runs lovely, but the acceleration is not smooth, once over a certain rev band the bike is fine & will cruise all day , but starting up from the lights it takes a few seconds to really get going..
    any ideas guys ??

    before tuneup?

Hey Kevin,,,,how did it run before the tuneup??? Did it bog then, run bad, ???? How is your fuel filter? Maybe pull a plug and check color.....let us know to help narrow it down to a few things and not a lot......Mike in S.Diego

What kind of exhaust setup do you have? Any thing else that might not be stock?

I would also suggest checking into the pick up coil check and repair tech tip.

        Hi
Plugs are fine , sandy brown in colour & i've replaced with new anyway
Its running the same as before the tune up, so i obviously have the same problem.
Exhaust is 4 in 1, i'll check the tech tips
I'm thinking it can't be something major as otherwise the bike runs well.
        Very Annoying though.

          Kevin,

What rpm are you trying to take off at? If you're letting the clutch out at 1500 rpm and expecting it to pull like a freight train, well it'll pull, but with the 4-1 pipes it won't perk up until over the 3.5k mark. Also would suggest you try a 1/2 turn out of the pilot screws on each carb and see how it responds, if it bogs worse at the same rpm, then turn them IN a 1/2 turn and try again.

I have a very light hesitation at times, very similar to what you describe. After reading several other threads about this topic, I have decided that I will need to replace my needles and emulsion tubes (basic dynajet kit) as soon as I can afford it ($72 @ mikesxs). I'm told it will greatly improve my MPGs too.
