i changed ignition pickup coils on my xs 1100 79 special engine. should these be set to specific clearance between the high spot on crank and the high spot on the pick ups? i noticed it has slotted tangs on them.

I set mine to .56mm thinking that, over time, the magnets haven't gotten any stronger. It works well that way, but .7mm is the factory spec.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I've set the timing on mine a number of times, but I don't remember if I checked it after setting the pickup coil gap. I've set it that way on a number of other bikes, and it didn't cause a problem. IIRC there's an acceptable range the gap can be set to, and I want to say it's .5mm - .7mm, but I wouldn't swear to it. I can't find it in the manual, but maybe someone else will chime in.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
