VIN Stamp?

Im picking up my XS11 parts bike on tues, and I have another frame coming in for my new project(first xs11!!) with a clear title. I am wondering about the VIN though. I see they have a sticker on the frame head which should have the VIN on it, but I will be tearing into the frame, cutting, welding, and powdercoating later. Is the VIN stamped into the frame, or just on the sticker?

Oh, and on a side note, what is the difference between models? XS11g, special? Are they just trim packages or is there a real difference?

Someone else will chime in on the frame differences, but it's usually just different mounting tab placements for electronics, side covers, and the tank.

As for the VIN number, you have that sticker on the left side of the neck. On the opposite right side, it's actually stamped into the metal.

Good, I was hoping that was the case. As for tabs and mounting brackets and such, the different placement shouldnt make a big deal since this will be a frame up custom build and most of the stock stuff probably wont be on there. thanks!!

heh, Im a builder, not a restorer, and classic standards never really appealed to me in stock form. I was planning a build on some sort of older 4cyl and then ran across xschop's bike. Once i saw that, I knew I had found the right platform to start with. I lean toward the sportier bikes, but wanted something low, mean, and fast. Thats why I bought just a frame and engine and electrical. The forks, swingarm, tank, seat/fender will all be different.

Ahhhh... So YOU'RE the one he told me about. Well.. that bike wasn't anything near stock anyway... so customize away. (Like you needed my approval for YOUR bike anyway..

uh-oh, theyre talking about me already and Ive been here all of a day his bike is a bad influence on me. I had made sketches and photochops already of a GS1000 and XS1100 and liked the xs better, but was going to ditch the idea due to the shaft drive. Then I saw his conversion setup and it was all over after that.
