  • Piston clip installation tip

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3i6hFaIQ8g

    Hi all:

I was putting on pistons today and came up with an easy way to get them on pretty quickly without using screw drivers or sharp tools which might damage something.

I used a 3/8" dowel cut a groove in it using a hacksaw.

I put the left side of the clip in the notch with the opening @ 6 o'clock, then I used the dowel starting @ 1 o'clock pushing down to 6 o'clock to get the clip in.

posted a video on youtube but: don't think it came out too good.

Any how it is an attempt to help out.

    "SX11??" lol..

Ummm... Nice video of your shoulder there at the important part!

I use a good set of needle nosed pliers.. grab one side a bit back from the end, then stick the other end into the groove and start working it in.

Glad you found something that works for you though.

On a side note... it doesn't hurt to go to your local bike shop and pick up a couple extra. Most shops that have been in business for any time will have a few in the back for a buck a piece or something. That way, if you don't get one in and the clip shoots off to outer space somewhere, you have a spare. Kind of crappy to have one little clip stop progress on the whole rebuild. Yup.. I know this from experience..

Yeah I know I was so concerned about looking like I knew what I was doing that I didn't realize I was blocking the camera.

Probably should have done the video over but the clip did go in as planned.

Using my method none of the clips went flying I think I did a good job of describing it tho.
