    xs1100 lowering

Well put "everything"new in the carbs and runs like a dream. Now next thing I need is advise on lowering it for the wife.
Seat job may help some but what about putting smaller height shocks on the back = yes - no - maybe ?
Would that mess with the front end ?
    Thanks again

      NULLE,

I PUT 1 1/2" SHORTER (11" EYE TO EYE) PROGRESSIVES ON MY '80SG AND I JUST LOVE IT. I ALSO HAD THE SEAT REDONE ABOUT AN INCH SHORTER AND ABOUT 3" WIDER PLUS A GEL PAD. I THINK IT MADE A WHOLE NEW BIKE OUT OF IT. I CAN RIDE 500 MILES IN A DAY EASY WITH NO BUTT-BURN AND IT HANDLES LIKE A BIG SPORT BIKE.

      GOOD LUCK, NOMAD

Exactly what I am going to do. There is a guy in Rapid City that does the gel seats.

I am dragging this old thread back to the top of the forum again, Sorry. )
I am thinking about trying to get my seat a little lower. I am
5'-6", and at 43 yrs old, am still waiting for that growth spurt that Mom always used to promise.
I would rather not mess with the travel of the suspension, (so that I can "load it up" with camping gear).
Have there been many seats modified, in order to reduce the height a little?
Did you feel that this was successful?
Care to share what one might expect to pay for this done professionally?
If there is a good way to re-work the foam, I could just buy a good seat cover and do it myself.

          TIA
          Mike

A friend of mine took his to a shop that did custom auto upholstery work. They cut about an inch or 2 off the bottom of the seat foam, and then recovered it. Cutting off the bottom of the foam leaves the factory seat profile, while still lowering it a bit.

somone mentioned progressive shocks for lowering the bike. does anyone know where to get them? I'm about 5-11 but still it seems just a little high for a big-ass cruiser.

I got my lower shocks from the Yamaha dealer and they are "Progressive" Suspension . I also lowered the seat and got plenty of leg room now .
Not sure how to post picture but will check and try it. lol

                          Marty,

As far as I can work out he's a Brit ex-pat living in Austrialia somewhere - which is a bummer as he would have got some business from me if he was in the UK - and maybe you if in the US

Ho-hum.... best look closer to home!
