Hello, I have a question about preserving the frame on my xs. My bike came with some cruiser pegs mounted on it that were pretty ratty looking. Once I pulled them off and saw the 1/4" holes through the frame I started thinking about water and rust. On bicycles, the kids pour linseed oil in them and pray for the best. What's the hot set up for making a motorcycle frame last ? Are there any places on the the xs frame that will need special attention ? thanks, Jeff

The frame is really the most sturdy part of these bikes. The only spot to watch out for really is the left rear area at the lowest spot while on the side stand. Since that's where it sits 90% of it's life, moisture tends to collect there.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Greetings Sirplus,
I'm from Lodi... Good looking stable.
I think there has been a post around here somewhere about that very thing. Something about drilling a small hole in the bottom of the frame on the sidestand side of the bike. To drain any liquid that finds its way inside. Did that make any sense?
A romp with the search button might locate something. I am headed there myself. See what I can find. There are some posts there about this very question....
Take care.
