    I have an '82 xj1100 that has sat for 8 years that I am resurrecting. I re-built the carbs among other things and replaced the clutch lever perch(bike was stolen and dropped prior to my ownership).I hooked up the cable, adjusted it, and pulled on it. It was rock hard and failed to dis-engage the clutch(wheel would not spin). I took the cable out of the equation by removing the adjustment cover and trying to operate the lever by hand and could barely move it. The manual mentioned steel balls on the opposite side that could prevent dis-engagement if they were out of place, so I took the cover off, checked them, and replaced it to no avail.The bike only has 15k on it and inside the case looks brand new.I also tried to push on the pressure plate by hand and could not see any movement.I am ok when it comes to wrenching, but know little about trannys and less about bikes being my first . xjkid

    clutch

    The clutch is a mutiple plate clutch that runs in oil, the plates are stuck together most likley, try running the bike so it get good and hot, sometimes just the heat will let it release. If not u will have to take it apart and clean it up regards Mitch

      Usually this is the case with a bike that has sat for a long period of time, the discs kind of lock together and you need to pull it all apart and then put it back together.

        The springs are very strong on this and you wouldn't be able to move the lever with your fingers.

        I'd say it's either adjusted wrong or the cable is rusted up.

        If the plates are stuck together you wouldn't be able to tell by pulling the clutch lever but you wouldn't be able to get it into gear with the engine running either.

        If the clutch is stuck from sitting, with the engine off put it in 5th gear and rock the bike for and aft with the clutch lever pulled in. They'll usually break free with a couple minutes of this treatment.
