  • Ground wire in the rectifier/regulator

I just noticed that the black ground wire has been taken out of it's spot on the rectifier and it's connector removed from the plug. On the other end of the plug the ground is still there, but why would the PO remove the ground wire?!?! Is there any way I can fix this? I am way over budget and my wife is getting really mad. I really want to ride this before the season is over!

    Thanks,
    Rick

If the ground wire is only missing from the 3 prong plug, it's because Yamaha decided that you didn't need 2 ground wires. On the other hand if it has been removed from the 6 prong plug, you can replace the plug if you need to.

Send me a PM if you need a new plug. One side of the plug is only a couple bucks...

Yeah it is from the three prong plug. The rectifier side has two wires and the plug end has three. Should I still ground it out or just cap it and call it a day...

That's the way the bike was made, I'd just leave it alone. On the other hand, the heavy duty reg/rec units I make, I've added the redundant ground back in.

BTW, the 3 wire plug with 2 wires is the regulator side and the 6 wire plug with 5 wires is the rectifier side.

Mine is the same way with the 2 wires coming from the regulator side. I want to test it but I am a little confused. Can anyone let me know on how to test the regulator/rectifier? My tach has been wobbling and from my understanding this can be caused by a charging issue. Reading the manual the testing is done with the 3 wires coming out of the regulator, but with only 2 how do I test it? I am sure its something stupid that I am missing.

          Thanks,
