  • '79 Special fenders on a '79 Standard

So now that I have spark on my new project bike and it's too damn hot to work on it anymore today I have time to consider other stuff. I've searched the site but I haven't found answers to these specific questions. besides, how else can we connect if we don't ask questions?

The project is a 1979 Standard. The fenders on it are trashed. It came with two parts bikes, however - both '79 Specials - and one of those has beautiful fenders. The Special fork tubes are also in much nicer shape, so I plan to use the forks from a Special with the tree from the Standard, so I do not see any issues mounting the front fender from the Special.

Is the rear fender a direct bolt on? I know the ignitor is mounted in a different position on the Special than on the Standard. Will my Standard wiring harness work or will I need to switch with a wiring harness from one of the Specials? The bike came with a replacement Standard seat in really nice condition. Will that seat work with a Special rear fender? I also plan to use the headlight from a Special and I haven't decided which gauges to use as I have nice sets of both. Will Standard gauges work with a Special headlight? Will Special gauges work on a Standard?

I know I could just try all this stuff and find out for myself, but it's too hot today.

    The fenders are not interchangable.

Will the ignitor clear the seat? I can modify other things. Like I said, it's a really nice fender.

I should have listened better. The triple trees have a different rake, or is the frame... I can tell you this, the fenders go with the forks of the particular model.
