Exact manufacturing date and model

Hi,
I am trying to help my brother export a 1980 XJ1100, but we need more info for customs, which I am not sure how to get...
1. How do I know if it's an XS or an XJ?
2. Is there any way to know the month in which the motorcycle was made? it needs to be more the 30 years old down to the month.
I really don't know anything about motorcycles, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The month and year it was manufactured should be on the front part of the frame on a silver/white looking plate with the VIN near headlight. If it is a 1980 it is a XS.
