  • Will a crank from XS1100 fit XJ1100?

I let my cousin borrow my beloved '82 maxim XJ1100... (1st mistake). He had 1 comment when he came back. "Wow that thing redlines in 1st gear before you know it!" ... well you know the rest of the story.
I pulled her all apart to find #3 rod heat blued and with 1/8 th inch play. I just know that journal is shot. I spied a 1100XS crank and rods for sale and thought if it fit ... Bada Bing! I thought one of you fellas should know the answer to my quandry. Thanks in advance!

These motors... unless EXCESSIVELY worn and high mileage will withstand a run into redline and above with no harm.. UNLESS there's too little oil to keep things lubed. Bluing means it got hot from lack of oil. I wouldn't make a habit of it, but it shouldn't hurt unless run there all day.

Yup.. the cranks are all the same from 78-84 covering all XS/XJs. You'll need new bearings though, and you'll need to MIC that new crank. Heck.. MIC the old one to see if it's still in spec. No use shipping a 40 lb hunk of metal if not needed.

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

If you are anywhere close to central KS, I have one in my garage, and probably the rod if you want to stop by....
