  • Quick Fusebox Question

    Hi All

After a 'mild electrical fire' on my XS last week I decided it was probably time to fit the new fusebox (thanks TC !) along with my spare regulator / rectifier (whichever you guys on the otherside of the pond call it ) - luckily I had a spare for my XS trike.

Now, with the help of my friendly local mechanic, we got it all installed and crimped in nicely - but when it came to replacing the fuses... bugger !

The fuses I had in there were (of course) probably the originals from 1978 - all the markings had worn off and there was no way of telling what 'ampage' they should be (except for the far right one which was, I think .. from memory ... 15amps ?) - couldn't find anything in the haynes manual nor owners manual which showed what the correct fuses should be.

Can anyone tell me the ampage left->right of the fuses in their fusebox so I can get the correct ones in there, I have all 15's at the moment, but don't really fancy another brush with the 'hot stuff' should anything decide to blow again.

    Cheers
    Chris

    82 XJ:
    Main 30A
    Headlight 10A
    Signal 20A
    Ignition 10A
    Tail 10A

    XS:
    Main 30A
    Headlight 10A
    Turn signal 20A
    Ignition 10A
    Accessory 10A slo blow

I think they added this next part for you:
    "Caution"
Do not exceed any of these maximum
ratings as it will overload the circuit.
This could result in a fire and complete
    loss of the bike

I just recently replaced mine w/ one from TC...
IIRC, they were all 10 amps, except 1 which I believe was a 20, for the headlight circuit.

As far as the order of what each one was, I'm sorry. Can't remember.
As I changed them out, I wrote them down on a small piece of paper, (made a directory) and taped inside the cover. But I was lucky, mine was still ledgable...

CatatonicBug has service and user manuals on his site
        http://www.ringler.us/family/mybike.html
That's where I got the numbers I posted.

remember these bikes only put out 20 amps and you can replace AC generator and a few other parts from an 82-xj to get up to 26 amps or you can buy a reg/rec from someone from this site ($100?) to boost your low rpm amps.(forget who but if you ask, someone will know)

Chris, do you have a '78 wiring harness in a '79F with a '80 engine?

            Regards,

To tell you the truth - I have no idea - the engine number is from an SG, the original bike is an 'F' - it doesn't have all the fancy self-cancelling turn signals / stop-bulb warning wiring that the US models have. So I really don't know what else is in there !

Thanks - I've just the trike back from having major carb / rear brake work done - runs like a dream now - it was on display at the Bulldog Bash this past weekend (biggest bike rally in the UK) and it got quite a bit of attention - will soon be in an issue of BritChopper magazine too (http://www.britchopper.co.uk).

Thanks all for the responses - I've got a big bag-o-fuses here so I'll set about replacing them tonight with the correct ones !

                Cheers
