Is that a KD adjustable rack/backrest? If so i just mounted one on my XJ 750 Mid Max last week. I had to remove the side rails and of course the small rubber sissy bar. With all joints loosened I slid the front mount over the shock stud on one side and replaced cap nut finger tight. Next using a lever I persuaded the other side front mount onto the other shock stud and replaced cap nut finger tight.(by the way my studs are welded to the frame) Next I blocked up the rack off the tail light to a level that looked right and slid the rack fore or aft til the backrest was in proper alignment with seat. Next I centered the rear of the rack and took measurements of the spacers needed to bolt thru the rack thru the spacer into the threaded hole that the side rail attached to. I think my spacers were about an inch or so. I picked up some longer bolts at Lowes. My cap nuts bottomed out so more than one washer was needed on each stud. I tightened everything up (don't forget the allen screws on the front pipes) making sure all stayed in line and now i can haul my lunch box to work HTH1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )

Vetter mounts diffeerently
The rack I have has two mounting points one on the shock studs and the other like yours further back on the fender...if mine mounted like yours then we wouldn't be here discussing this problem...but Thanks for the pics...your set up looks good...

Ben, don't give up, there is always a way. Remember my tail rack? It was actually from a Suzuki and the mounts were way out of whack for the Yammy, so I had to fabricate some brackets to fit it. I only just got the proper XS nos one this year, so that old Suzy rack served me well for 4 yrs. Take a breath, have a beer, oh it's morning, OK, have 2 beers Too bad we didn't look at it last weekend.

madmax-im I've got the last two hours in a well almost fruitless search for the 10x1.25 threaded metric couplings. I only found 10x1.50 on alot of sites. My 80G rear shock studs measure 10x1.25 i'm guessing yours are the same. My next step would be to fabricate them myself as Geezer suggests If the rack cannot be manipulated to fit properly. Good luck gotta go wax the JeepOriginally posted by Geezer View PostYou can make your own tube nuts from aluminum round bar. It's easier with a lathe but can be done on a drill press...
