  • "T" pieces between carbies Anyone found a leak?

    Greetings all,

I'm running a XS1100 E, and am chasing an elusive fuel leak manifest in a slight seeping under the float bowls and drain screws when I'm parked a day or so.....I've just done a carby clean, replaced float valves, reset floats etc, and also replaced the by now very battle scarred washers on the drain plugs. I only assembled things this evening so I don't really know what the outcome will be yet. (Perhaps I should note that I've replaced the fuel tap seals/diaphrams way back......so I'm ruling these out as part of the problem)

However, I'm wondering about the "T" fuel inlet connectors between the carbies -- if they are weeping slightly due to having a not very tight seal to the carbies (or through just general deterioration of the outer casing of the "T" piece) and are slowly allowing the fuel still in the lines to drain out? As the "T" pieces are right in the middle there between the carbies its really hard to see whats going on once the whole shebang is assembled.

So, two questions. Has anyone encountered this problem and traced it to these "T" pieces. And, is anyone (apart from yamaha) selling replacements?

    regards,
    Bruce

Well, I'm not going to be much help on this, but I will say that I have heard others having problems with the carb T's. I can't seem to locate a thread about replacing them, but I know it has been done. Have you removed them to look at their seats, to make sure they're sealing against the carb bodies?

I am in the midst of redoing my carbs. The rubber jacket around my T's is very old and has a very crappy seal. I am most definitely going to replace the, but they are quite costly for such a small part. If you can find cheaper please let me know.

I can't find them at the moment, but there are a few threads in the last 8 months or so where folks came up with ways to fix those Ts. Do a search and you should find them.

          Tee Hee....

Lots of options with pics here:

The "low budget" option fixed my leaking Tee problem and as of yesterday...is still leak free.

            thanks all

            Hi people

Thanks to all who have replied here and to those who supplied the links (Tee pieces eh! That explains why I found nothing when I searched on "T" ).

Anyhow, the "O" solution is just brilliant -- and somehow so obvious that I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I have a couple of spare "T's" so I'll start having a play around. (that price for the replacement "T"s is just beyond belief....)

            regards
            Bruce
