Probably offer to sell it and take a commission on the final auction price.

If they really have one in the crate, and if they have any sense it would bring respectable money.

Could be a scam I guess, but maybe not.

There used to be a guy in Portland OR who owned a Triumph/Norton dealership with a warehouse full of oem parts and a bunch of original bikes still in the crates. He was a "difficult" man and hard to get parts away from unless you wanted to pay extremely high prices. I used to drive past his building all the time in Portland through the '70s and early '80s...then a few years ago there was a write up in a national cycle magazine that someone had bought out his treasure trove of museum quality bikes and the pile of oem parts.

Stranger things have happened than a lone MNS being found in a crate.

That and the guy wasn't trying to sell it here, just trying to get an idea of value. Nice find Dott1.

                      Hey Dott1,

These bikes sold for around $3,500 give or take depending on location, model, etc.! Even in the crate, it's hard to say what the condition of the rubber components are going to be like, and will still need new tires, new battery, complete oil/fluid changes. The 80 will be easier to get parts for vs. the 81 since the 81 was more like the XJ.

Hope you have the $$ for the bidding war your 10 aquantanences will be going thru!
And of course, IF you win it, we want lots of pictures!!

I am with TC on this one. A clean rebuild yes but a bike that has sat in a crate for nearly 30 years is not going to be a turn key operation.
so $2000 would be my opinion.
corrosion inplaces you have not even imaged yet
A restorers dream maybe but a riders nightmare
