  • coils?

    starting my xj cold only runs on 1&4 after a while of playing with it 2&3 kick in and it runs fine. got pods & a mac 4 into 1 w/baffle did search on coils found a couple of possibilitys am i barking up the right tree? thanks

    am i fouling 2&3 too much choke? thanks again!

      What do the sparkplugs look like if you start it and let it run until the other 2 cylinders kick in?

      Have you adjusted the idle mixture screws?

      #2&3 are on the same coil, so I would suspect more of a coil/ignition issue than fuel, but fuel is easiest to check.

        Other option is if someone put larger jets in 2 and 3 due to them being internal for cooling. Especially if they were cornfused and used larger pilot jets.

          My guess is your on the right track thinking a coil's the culprit. Sounds like it's lazy, and has to heat up to get it to work.

          I've also seen coils act the opposite... (quits working when it gets hot...)

            Good luck!
            Check the pickup wires as well and clean your plugs and connections.Don't forget to apply dielectric grease or anti seize after you clean the connections on the plugs.
