Been reading, it seems that you need the sodium carbonate to supply the ions necessary to work, as I'm sure you know. I'm wondering if there is another type of ion that would work, but not be damaging to the zinc. Still reading, thanks for the links. This is fun!

Learning is always fun!
I don't know about the zinc, it sound dangerous and possibly lethal... hold my beer!

Lubricant
Tore apart other 3 carbs today, float pin extraction idea works beautifully. But pilot jets are stuck tight, been soaking in carb cleaner for 8 hours and they are still tight. Of course the screwdriver I am using is one of those small screwdrivers that the Snapon man gives away so I am wary. Tomorrow I plan to buy a good quality screwdriver and grind to fit. My question is which solvent is best for this problem, carb cleaner or WD40, or penetrating oil like Blaster. I think I would side with the WD. Any thoughts?Doug

I know when I pulled my carbs apart, I used WD on the jets like those pilot jets and about stripped out two of them. I switched to PB Blaster and they came out ALOT easier. IMHO, blaster is the right choice here.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
