There is no silencer... Just a rubber hose that runs up under the seat. It's completely open, and sucks in air from the most protected place on the bike. That way, water and road junk doesn't get sucked into the airbox. Removing that will not add to the air flow. Just make sure your air filter is clean, as that can make a big difference in air flow. Of course, some people have drilled holes in the bottom of the airbox, in the center of the filter element ring. Supposedly makes a bit of a noise while riding.

              Keep it

From what I've read - everything is there for a good reason . Altering your airbox or going to pods may require re-jetting the carbs which is another whole challenge

                The "Snorkel"

I know an owner who cut a good portion of the snorkel to facilitate the removal of the airbox and ultimately the carbs. He also drilled his airbox, and reports no ill effects because of these modifications. In fact he feels that the engine breathes better and is more responsive.

I removed my snorkel in an attempt to lean it out some, didnt seem to hurt anything and rain isnt an issue for me.

                    a little expirience..

i haven't done the removal to the 11, but i tryed it on the 250 ninja..
(bad Idea!!!) it made i run very lean and crappy...
ended up buying a new airbox cover, and putting it back to stock.

the carbs where very hard to tune on the ninja.

BUT, the 11's are a bit easier to tune and if you don't run in the rain....
i believe you could do it, and retune your carbs.
