    Hi All
    Two Questions
    1. How do i know which actual model # my 1979 is i.e F/G/Special Etc.
    2. Are my front forks, oil or Air or Both ?
    Cheers

The first three digits of the VIN will tell you what you have. IF your VIN starts with 2H7, it's a Standard, If not, it's a Special. That was the two choices in 1979. ALL 1979 models are "F". The model numbers are '78=E, '79=F, 80=G, '81=H, '82=J.

All forks use OIL, it's what dampens the shocks movement. The 79SF also has the air valves to provide increased preload pressure for things like fairings and such. Many folks report that with new Progressive fork springs that they don't need to use any air in their forks! YMMV!
