    Who's interested in MAXIM sidecover badges?

    I've recently acquired 1 of the Maxim sidecover badges, and will be sending it to a replicator to make copies of it. Replication, they say, can take several weeks, with the biggest time delay depending on whether there are other badges which can be added to the casting mold to spread the cost effectively. (The process uses a mega expensive-type silicone rubber material.)

    Initial cost estimates will depend on the size of the order, so the more we order, the cheaper they'll be, of course.

    Orders for 20 pairs or more at this point look to be around $30 (USD) for each badge + shipping. ($35.95 AUD) Price per single badge orders would be more.

    He estimates return shipping costs to U.S. @ approx. $1 / badge.

    I've asked him to send me one pair when he gets them made, I'll look them over, snap a pic, and post here. If they look good, I'll place an order.

    I'd like to start getting an idea now how many XJ owners would be interested. It's my understanding that the 750 Maxim used the same badge, and the 650 was very similar, except it said "MAXIM650". It could be used on those as well I guess.

    So, what do you all think?

    I'm volunteering to be the order-taker for anyone interested.

      Cool, Ed... I'll keep you posted. I mailed the one, good MAXIM badge I had to them today. Sounded like he wants to get on the molding process as soon as it arrives, from what he said in his last email to me.

      He did say it could take several weeks to get some made.

      As soon as I start getting them, I'll post a pic where everybody can see it.

      Anyone that's interested, can probably just pm me.

        PROGRESS UPDATE: 7-30-09

        I recieved an email from the replicator today, saying he recieved my MAXIM badge in tact & in good shape yesterday, and will begin the replication process.

        He is also going to make some with the "650" as well for anybody interested in those.

        He asked for clarification of the entire XS-XJ badge lineup, and I tiold him as best I could, but ya know what they say... a picture's worth a thousand words... so I would like to gather pictures of the entire lineup of XS's & XJ sidecover badges from you guys, if possible to send.
        He wants to get his information as accurate as he can, which I admire.

        Also, it came to my attention to stress the importance of asking him to please make the XJ badges with the gold lettering / black background, (as original,) and I have passed that along to him as well.

        Any emblem pics, especially sidecover badges, you'd like to PM to me, I will pass on. Please include the year of the bike w/ pic.

          Hi Bob, I read this in another post and thought the pictures might help you. They sell reporduction badges for almost all bikes. Good luck.

            Yes, Thanks! I had visited and emailed a while back w. these folks as well... but they have nothing for the Maxim's.

            This company I came across didn't either, but was willing to cast some off of the one I was able to scrounge up.

            He asked me by email yesterday to get him accurate info for the entire lineup. He already has most of the ones your guy shows...

            But this should work out to be a new source for us MAXIM guys... from the 650 up through the 1100's.

            Think what I'll do is forward this site tag on to him for the rest of the XS line.
            But mostly what he's looking for is year / model id matchup...

                  UPDATE: 8/2/09

                  Recieved an email today... Maxim sidecover emblems are beginning production. They will be gold w/ black backgrounds. He will keep me posted on time frames for completion. Price estimates have not changed.

                  I have added the 400's & 550's suggestions to him as well.

                  I also passed along about most replica gas tank emblems being flat, not curved, and what a pain that is to contour to the tank shape...or don't have the right pin placements... etc.

                  Hopefully, the first ones will begin to arrive in the next few weeks...
                  I will post the pics as soon as they arrive!

                  I am taking orders now for anyone who's interested. The larger the order, the cheaper the cost per badge will be for everybody.

                    Update:9-28-09

                    Recieved this email from the replicator this evening;

                    "Hi Bob - sorry about this on-going delay. My makers have now done the mold of your badge (and the other Maxim 650). This week they are casting, so maybe next week the badges will go to the electroplaters and then be ready for final completion soon thereafter.

                    I will try to email you an update next week."

                    Hopefully, things are now progressing and the wait will soon be over.
                    I'll keep everybody posted as soon as I know more.

                            Hi David,

                            I haven't heard anything yet... Guess I need to prod him and see where we're at...

                            I had one good one, sent it to him to copy.

                            I know where I can get another, used though.

                            When these new repros begin to come in, I'll post the price, and let everyone know.

                            I'm starting to get antsy myself... looking forward to putting a couple on mine soon!

                              UPDATE: 10/22/09

                              Recieved a reply today from an email I sent to the replicator.

                              He says he expects to have them ready and heading my way within 10 days.

                              I told him we were getting a little impatient, and he said he understood, and sent apologies for how long the process has taken.

                              Hopefully, we're getting close now.

                              I'll keep you informed.
