  • xj1100 cylinder temperature

hi all i don't know if i have an issue or not, wanna be sure before i run the bike too far, seems to me the engine temp is high, i am not sure as this bike is new to me, only had it around the block a couple of times, it runs great, and no problems starting just seems like it is a little hot, i guess if you run the engine too long with out the bike moving the engine will get hotter than if running down the road.. what kind of temp range should i see, i have a infared thermometer to check it,, any help would be appreciated...

I put an IR thermometer on Betsy every now and then. I measure the temp at the header pipes and they usually run between 200 and 250 degrees depending on the ambient temp. I've seen it go as high as 300 when the timing was retarded. Not a good idea to let it idle for long periods without some air moving across the engine - guaranteed to get it hot.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
