    clutch slips in 3rd

I have searched this but was wondering what clutch you recommend and I might try new clutch springs first. What brand springs do you guys recommend?

    Hey zx11racr,
I bought friction plates from partsnmore.com and kept the old springs... Seemed to solve my clutch slip, my new springs were incorrect ones from JCWhitney. I plan on getting a new set from MikesXS.net and changing them later. Check these threads out you might find what your looking for. Good luck, such more there's a lot more info on here about it and other solutions as well!

I fought this same isssue for over a year. Slips in 3rd when it hits 7K. I tryed new Vesrah HD springs, a little better but still slips. Diff. oils, added a steel, no better. Three diff. clutch packs. Put in Barnnet springs w/o the extra steel, still slipped. Bought P&M clitch frictions, problem solved. After I added the extra steel that compressed the springs so they are under length spec.

Learn from red bandit and my own mistakes. Go all out the first time. Iwent into my clutch three times. Get heavy spring, lightly sand yours steels to remove glaze, add a steel, and replace all your fibers. Barnett is the best, Versah is good, too.

I just replaced the springs with a heavy duty set and installed new frictions with sanded steels. No problems anymore. Used to slip in 3,4,5th over 5500.

Ed, this might be something to work on next Sat. Simple things first, I am assuming that you have adjusted the clutch as per the manual? The clutch on my midnight has been slipping in higher gears as well. Thinking about adding another steel.

              clutch

Yeah I adjusted the clutch but it was after my ride. I havnt been back out since. This was a common problem with the xj650 and xj750. We always just put new clutch springs in and that fixed it. I dont want to do it more then once though. Only happens when you are on it hard. Like maybe going up a entrance ramp. My just get new frictions and springs and do it right the first time.

At least the clutch is easy to work on, don't even have to drain the oil.

                  clutch

True, I might just order new frictions and springs. Where would you get them from?
