    Try this instead of powdercoating..

    Hey guys.....

    Try this out...

    KBS Coatings. Company based out of Valparaiso Indiana (about 30 miles east of Chicago). They make several products, all of them excellent. I just coated a Standard tank...products are MUCH better than Kreem!!!! the website is www.kbs-coatings.com :: the frame coating is 10x harder than powder coating...i couldnt believe it.

      the frame coating is 10x harder than powder coating...i couldnt believe it.
      That's the beauty of powder coat though. It ISN'T hard. You can just about dig a fingernail into it.. sorta. It is pretty flexable and dang near industructible, and you won't ever get a rock chip in it because of this.

      Not trying to talk trash of your find, but harder isn't always better. I do like a better option than Kreem for the tanks though. Thanks.. Any pics by any chance?

        true...but i coated some crap around my garage with some of the leftover stuff....then just to test it, beat the hell out of it with my waffle head framing hammer....didnt leave even the smallest mark...i was impressed!!!!

                And back to the original topic.. lol. (Only fair since I'm the one that usually drags them OFF topic..)

                Those rusted out spots in the frame can be cleaned up. Make the holes as big as they need to be with a rat-tail file or such until you get back to good metal. A welder can then weld up those holes. Take a grinder to the welds to make them smooth, then paint the frame with a good quality paint. Good as new-ish.. lol.

                  I have put my engine on my frame twice...The first time was a pain in the arse, and involved 6 people all man handling the freaking engine...NOT pretty.

                  Then I read this thread

                  and saw how he put his engine in and gave that a try. I did it all by myself, and was able to get it in faster and smoother than with 6 other guys helping me out!

                    If you don't have all those resources to swap out the frame.
                    Pull off exhaust, turns, pegs and handle bars.. (wouldn't hurt to remove fenders too)
                    Remove drive shaft
                    Loosen mounting bolts
                    Put a blanket next to bike (cardboard at least) and lay bike on it's side.
                    Remove mounting bolts and lift frame off.
                    Reverse for installing new frame.
