I managed to get something to work (so far, anyway). I had to file the hole in the trunk to get rid of the stepped notch, and made it a perfect rectangle. The original height of the hole was already perfect. I used the 4-pin Molex connector, and the Female one snapped right in, perfectly! I then used male connectors on both ends of a home-made pigtail I created. Radio Shack also sells Wire tap-in squeeze connectors that I plan to get, to attach the other female connector to the bike wiring harness. Now that I have the electrical figured out, I need to engineer a quick-release mounting mechanism...

        Bug,
I went looking, but I could NOT find the proper connector. Seems to me the Radio Shack 4 wire will work. I DID see some single, two, 1/2 of a 3(female side ONLY), and on up to 36 pin. The 9 and 12 pin connectors can be had easily.

No problem. Mine is now almost completely operational! I used the 4-pin ones, and only used 3 of the pins. It turns out, there is a detent on the connectors, so there is no worry of them falling apart. I ordered the rubber bunkees from Vetter, and I still need to come up with a mounting bracket. I'm reconsidering the whole "quick disconnect" idea. I had my son hop on the pillion seat with the trunk bungee'd to the luggage rack, and he said it was really comfortable. With the 4 big lights on it, I'll be a lot more visible with it on there. The only thing I can think of as a reason to take it off is the fact that it's not "removable" storage for a road trip. However, as long as I am travelling solo, there will be plenty of room on the pillion seat to strap a duffel.

I'd still be interested in seeing the original Vetter plug though. However, based on the apparent unavailability of those original plugs, I highly recommend the procedure I went through for those looking to return the trunk to a state that is as close to stock as possible. It was pretty easy, and relatively cheap. Since I don't have a Molex crimper tool, I just used a small pair of needlenose pliers to do the crimping. Those tap-on connectors worked really well for connecting to the bike's wiring harness too. I ended up getting the next size smaller (22-18 gauge) than what I linked to in my previous post. I used heat-shrink tubing to make it all nice and pretty too.
