what is under the breather cover? are they any maintenance needed for this part of engine?

No. Just keep the hose plugged in to the airbox, or keep a filter on it.Ray Matteis

I did find mine had a milky substance in it. I spent alot fo the colder months int he winter dorking around with my carbs and running the bike just enough to get warm but not enough to dry it out. Had water running out the exhaust cross connector to. This caused alot of moisture in the crankcase that formed the milky goo. I pulled the hose off and blew it out with compressed air. Glad it was not pointed at me when I put the air to it, could have looked like the mashed potato scene in Animal House.

pulling the cover
i have looked at it several times and wondered what could be inside it for curiosity but decide i might screw up the gasket,looks to be a filter in it, looking at it. i may pull the hose and clean it out. just to see if there is any gook in it.79 xs 1100 spec & 80 xs 1100 gComment
