  • oil light again

OK i have what i think is a problem maybe not.Have taken the SG out for a ride lately and when i come back from a ride and shut of bike and turn it on-oil light will not come on again until i let the bike sit for a good 10 minutes. Is this normal?I wouldn't think so.

Hey Oldyam, I havve found that often my oil light does not light up when I turn the key on, however if I just tap the start button, but not start the bike, it lights right up every time. So I know it lights and I have not given it much concern.

DGXSER-tried that but no dice.Had to wait a good 5 minutes before the light would go on again.Oil light does not come on while driving and when bike is cold will go out as soon as the bike starts up.

The sending unit is probably getting full of crud. It is in the middle back of the barrels with one wire going to it. You can pull the wire, pull the sending unit and then squirt carb cleaner into the hole the oil would go in to. The piston that is inside may be sticking on a gunk build-up, and that should clean it out. Make sure you have a good electrical connection as well. The switch is supposed to ground the wire when there is no or almost no oil pressure.
You CAN verify it is the switch by removing the wire and touching it to the engine. The oil light should light as soon as you do.

I took the housing off and squirted carb cleaner into it.No good and i don't see anything inside of it beside a gold mesh screen that is not clogged.I took a housing that i had and also looked inside and saw the same things.I ended up having to switch housings and now have the light go on after bike is off and turned back on.
