  • Windshield buffeting solution?

I'm headed on a long trip with the g/f tomorrow and put on my windshield last night (which I normally never use):

I do seem to get a fair amount of buffetting of my head at 60+ mph.

I'm wondering what adjustments might be best to help with this. Higher fairing? Lower? More raked?

I'm gonna not have a lot of time to mess with it before I leave...

Also, has anyone used Rain-X on these plastic fairings? I wonder if it would hurt the material, and it would be nice to have...

John, best deal with windscreen is to have it be just below eye level, which is not an easy trick on an XS. XJ has a seat that is 2" lower, and that same screen you have on your XS would work fine. Sometimes you're better off without the shield than to have one that whacks your neck sore with the buffeting. You might see if you can get it a couple inches higher - might look goofy but work better.

If you ride all skwunched down like in the pic, the buffeting wouldn't be so bad ha ha. If it was the same relative height while u were sitting up straight it would be ok.

Lemon Pledge!!!! Will shed the rain, make it easy to get bug guts off. Also, Honda Pro Polish (spray all-purpose cleaner-polisher) is great on all surfaces, I use it on windscreen / visor / whatever, it's great. Not sure that RainX is ok on plastic....

        Hey there John,

I would suggest raising the height of the shield, then you might just have to try tilting it more upwards or towards you. I used to get a fair amount of buffeting with my older slightly shorter shield, but my new homemade one sits a bit taller, is also a bit wider, and it has cut down considerably on the buffeting.

Label On Rain-X states DO NOT USE ON PLASTIC!!!! ONLY FOR GLASS!! So...I didn't try it on my plexiglass!! Just put wax on it! Same for my visor. Have a safe trip.
