  • ? about 750 FD swap

    Howdy everyone,
I have been reading everything I can find on this swap. The question I have is can you subsitute the XS11 drive couppler in the 750FD unit? All I have done so far is look at the pictures on the posts and haven't made measurments yet. It seems you should be able to do this and not have to mess with the drive shaft lenght. Any thoughts or knowledge would be nice.
    Thx Paul

That is an interesting thought. And since I am contemplating doing this mod myself I am intrigued.

My initial thought is that it will take alot more technical skill to get the components changed over and make sure your gear positions are properly aligned. My thought is that you will need to pull the pinion gear off the 750 coupler and swap it with the gear on the 1100 coupler since that is part of the ratio that your looking to get from the mod. So this will require new crush washers and alignment of the ring and pinion gear spacing and proper torquing.

That being the case, and with the simplicity of the spacer, it would certainly complicate the switch over, but take some of the uncertainty out of the spaced drive shaft.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

      750FD swap

Thx DGXSER for the reply. Looking at the info I have, don't you have to do that to plug the oil holes? Like I said I haven't taken anything apart or measured yet. I did buy A used 750FD, but it just came the other day and haven't had A chance to play yet. Sorry I didn't mention the info i'm looking at, it's the 2006 750FD by Cody and XSChop. Great Stuff. I do A lot of my own gear work ( jeep rear ends ), so I can find my way around A dial indicator ,I just can't spell.
      Thx Paul

I just completed this mod, and adding the spacer is about as difficult as falling off your barstool.
Messing with changing out the coupler doesn't add any value IMHO.
As for plugging the oil holes, it consisted of spinning off the nut, cleaning it up, putting in RTV and a washer, retorquing the nut....done.

            Pat,
If you could read through the original 750 swap thread, you would find that the parts don't swap inside the final drives. The splines on the 750 and 1100 FD's are different, as are ALL the internal gears. The hardest part of the swap I had to do was getting the drive shaft back into the yoke on the middle drive!

I was afraid the splines might be different, I guess I'll stay with the swap as done before. I do like to work on the KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID way. Less brain cells to use on that so I can drink more beer. Thx again and keep biken.
