  • ss brake lines for my XJ

doing the searches and digging around for the info, didnt find anything concrete on ss brake lines for my xj. Would anyone know exactly what I'd need size wise? and perhaps where you ordered them from? Any help would be appreciated. Ss lines are the only thing left to do.

    Thanks for reading

    Hey Ross,

Part of the problem with the STOCK XJ and 81MNS's brakes is that they have the linked system, and the hose connectors for part of the system, specifically for the parts that connect to the SOLID sections is different than the regular XS's standard BANJO bolt connections.

SO....for the front lines, one from MC, and one from metal frame line, as well as rear line to rear caliper all have the standard Banjo fitting, just need to specify the length and angle of fitting.

The one line going from the rear MC to the metal line to the front on the frame will be the one that causes some problems in getting a line with the proper fitting!

A work around IF you want to keep the linked system is to just get a line that would run the length of the metal frame line and the little line to the rear MC, and replace it with a SS one, then use the OEM junction at the forks for the short line to the front caliper. SEE the FICHE for views of the different lines used! OR....you could actually have just one LONG line made that would run from the rear MC all the way along the frame and to the front caliper, more of the cost of lines is the fitting ends, not so much the tubing.

There are posts and links in the forum and LINKS sections on where to acquire the lines, you can have them custom made to desired lengths, see my post/tech tip about SS lines in the MODS section, I used www.HELUSA.com and emailed, and IIRC even talked to the guy on the phone to get the specific lines made for mine with 4" OVER front forks!

Is your rear brake still linked with the right front? If so, get some string to measure the lines you need. I would keep that solid metal line going from the rear to the front up the right side of the frame... but use the stainless line before and after that.

I ordered my lines from a local bike shop so I could look in his book and get exactly what I wanted. Stainless line is pretty universal on size, and the different ends you'll need are 10m. The line is just bought the length you need and the compression ends are already on them... then you just screw on the ends you need.
