  • Fuel/air mixture screws?

I was reading on here that some people recommend starting with the screws turned out about 1 and 1/2 turns as a starting point. Bike is a project bike and hasn't been run in who knows how long. Bike starts good with full choke on. It dies at half choke and no choke. I'm thinking maybe I need to back out the screws further. Does backing them out further richen the mixture? It still dies after a minute of full choke when I drop it back to half choke. So I'm thinking that maybe it's too lean to stay running. Any advice from you seasoned xs11 people?

Thanks in advance for any help

Carbs have been religiously cleaned and treated to full rebuild kits including jets.

Personally i've always started with 2 1/2 turns and gone in 1/4 turn at a time.

1.5 turns is what the manual says, but it really makes no difference where you start.

I crank mine all the way in, then slowly bring each out until I get the fastest, smoothest idle. It takes a few rounds of this to get them to the best setting.

You can't hurt anything with this adjustment, so try it every which way.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

I'm thinking the idle circuit is not right because of either it's still dirty or wrong parts or float level is incorrect. But whatever, after a minute of choke it should run on half choke, or none.

Mine won't take full choke for more than it takes to kick it over, this time of year.

The bike should still idle albeit rough if the mixture screws
are out of adjustment, unless there screwed in all the way.
theres probably a problem with your pilot circuit, what kits did you use
          and what did replace?
What model carbs, if its the early model might be worth rechecking the mixtures screws for broken tips.
JAT have u capped off all the nipples from the carb boots?

If you haven't synched the carbs yet, do so as that gets all of them pulling at the same rate. It seems as if your carbs are not all even and that will cause the bike to not idle properly at half position.
