I'v been trying to find a set of driver step rubbers for my 80 xs1100 mns. the ones I find are the smaller ones I believe go on the older models. does anyone know where to get these or has anyone fit aftermarket footpegs on theirs? Mine look like dogs have been chewing them up

yeah, mine did too. I did extensive e-searches looking for new replacement rubbers to no avail. Everyone has the ordinary footpeg rubbers but it seems nobody has the wide ones. A cursory look at my old ratty pegs makes me think the rubbers could be moulded in place which may explain why nobody sells a replacement rubber part. You may have to find complete pegs rather than just the rubber bits. I lucked out, finding a list member who was modifying his Special and had a set of pegs with good rubber that he no longer needed.
Just maybe Andreas Weiss has a set? He didn't when I was looking but that was a while back.
The ordinary pegs that you can find rubbers for will swap right in BTW.
And like Rodger sez, use the search function. I do remember somebody using aftermarket pegs but all I remember was that they were real fancy and not cheap.Fred Hill, S'toon

AFAIK, there are no replacement rubbers for the wide pegs. Like Fred said, they are molded into place, and are not replaceable. You'll just have to keep your eyes peeled for someone with a parts bike that still has decent pegs, or swap them out for the smaller pegs (or the really shiny after-market ones, but they'd look funny on a MNS, IMO).1980 XS850SG - Sold

Great idea, unfortunately the setup on something like that is unbelievably expensive. Unless we could do runs in the thousands of pieces, it would just be way too expensive. Molding ain't cheap...1980 XS850SG - Sold

mebbe 20 years back we had guys visit our design office offering to custom mould rubber parts for us. They claimed they had a low-temperature process that allowed them to make moulds out of wood and offered to do as little as 10-off.Fred Hill, S'toon

pegs
Hi, thats pretty much normal on foot peg rubbers, you have to cut them off. I just bought some recently for my 1980 from the yamaha dealer. I'm pretty sure they are still available. To install them, spray the metal part of the peg with hairspray, then pound the rubber on with a hammer. No problem.
