  • Vetter fairing mounts...

Anyone out there know if there are two different mounts for the vetters, depending on whether you have a special or standard?

Derwat and I were looking at our respective mounts, and my fairing (vetter Yamahaon 80G) fits snugly around the guages and what not.

His generic vetter (IV) sits quite a bit further forward, and about 2 inches higher than mine. It has a large gap between the guage cluster and the fairing.

To us it looks like his mount is different.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

From what I have found when searching on the net, I couldn't find any different mounts for the standard or special. Maybe one set was for another bike and were modified? I know on my G the fairing is quite close to the guages and the lip of the "dash" is just about even with the front top edge of the guages. There is just about enough clearance on mine to allow lock to lock (if not for the mirrors interfering with the windshield just short of lock) with a small bit of clearance all the way. I'm pretty sure mine is the correct mount, as it looks pretty factory to me.

I've seen two different style's of mounts, I think one was the vetter mount and one is for the pacifico fairing. One type has a set of bolts that go into the front of the neck, the other style doesn't use those holes. I don't think its special/standard difference though, I think its Pacifico/yamaha vs Vetter.

Into the front of the neck?

Not sure what you mean. Both of ours have two 17mm head bolts that hold the mount to the frame and 4 hose clamps on the lower tubes.

Neither mount looks modified, but mine is like Cy's, where everything is close together, but doesn't interfere at any point, but Derwat has enough room put your arm between the guage cluster and his fairing.

W/o measuring his fairing looks to sit 2-3" further ahead and 1-2" higher than mine.

Yeah, to the neck, like this...

but if yours both look the same then thats not it huh, maybe one was a "custom" built by somebody and not the real mount.

Neither of those pictures are vetter fairing mounting brackets. Those look SCARY! They don't have any lower support!

I was told that those were off a xs1100 with a fairing, I never saw the fairing or the bike but it was someone who usually knows what he's talking about. Looking at my bike I think the one bracket would bolt across the front tubes where there is a pair of holes with no bolts and the other tube with the vertical holes looks like it would attach to the neck where I also have a pair of holes with no bolts. Then the fairing would slide in between the two brackets. So your brackets would be sandwiching the mounting surface of the fairing. They look like they'd work to me.

So no one has brackets like that???

I have those same brackets. My fairing is the Yamaha/Pacifico fairing for a 1978 Std. It is exactly as you describe, the brackets connect at the neck on top and sandwich the bottom of the fairing as well. Very secure and stable. It is not a Vetter bracket.

I think I understand you are saying that both pieces are used. I see where the bottom one bolts to the frame, but to what does the other (top?) part attach "at the neck"? I can't puzzle it out from the pictures.

From my experience it matters not whether the bike is a special or std model...the correct vetter bracket for the our years XS/XJ11s' fits all models...now as mentioned by others the brackets you have are not for vetter.

Ours don't look like those either. Ours are vetter mounts, but the fairing sits differently on both bikes, and it's because my mount is slightly different than his.

Both our mounts fit the bikes perfectly.

Are you sure their both vetter mounts for the windjammer? I know that the mount for a quicksilver will actually work with a jammer (having done it myself) but seems to place things different than the jammer mount does.

No, Just that they are Vetter style.

I didn't know the QS mounted differently.

When he said "neck" he was referring to the steering head. On the front of the steering head there is a boss with two 10x125 threaded nuts, to which the goose neck on the upper half of the mount bolts. This bracket is for the original Pacifico fairing used on the 78E full dress bike, it is very solid and the use of the upper mounting point eliminates the need for bracing underneath the fairing, giving the bike a cleaner look, and with a little work will fit on a Vetter fairing and do away with the windshield shake problem.
