  • Saddlebag recommendations?

Hey all.. I've got a mostly stock 1979 XS11 Special. I like it as-is, but I've got a couple of long trips planned soon, likely with a rider, so I'm going to need some storage space!

I'd like to find a set of saddlebags that I can add, and wanted to find if there are any recommendations for good bang for the buck. I'm hoping to not spend any more than $150 or so; hopefully that is realistic.

I do *not* want leather, or frills, or anything fancy. Just plain black saddlebags, whatever synthetic fabric they would use. Hopefully waterproof, and hopefully easily detachable.

    Any recommendations?

    thanks!

I see willieandmax.com has got decent prices, but no info on fitting the XS1100 (too old).

Try Chase Harper, I have a set of stealth bags on my XJ and they are great.

        This is what you've got?

It comes with all the mounting hardware?

I wish they had better pictures on that site; I wish I could see them on a bike. Do you have any pics up of yours?

        thanks!!

Also, another requirement is I'd prefer to not have to move my turn signals.

Stopped at the bike shop on my way home, and nearly all of them either interfered with the turn signal or prevent a passenger from riding (by being too far forward)... and the reason I need saddlebags is because I plan to have a passenger... d'oh!

I was also looking for bags that didn't interfere with my turns signals. I only found small bags (with an angle towards the front) that could do it. But you can't put a lot of things in them. Only good for a day around ride. If you find any, send pics so we can take a look at them.

              I B Looking too

I am in the same boat..so far all the saddlebags I have seen that look like they would come remotely close to fitting are pretty small.
I myself could probably make do with a change or two of clothes and a small tent or whatever...but SWMBO is another story... I'm sure you all know what I mean.
Someone here must have found something that fits without any mods, that has some room.

                Luggage

John, with all your stated limitations I would suggest a good luggage rack with back rest. Then get what ever size dunage bag will carry all the gear you want to take.and bungey it on the back.
Still have your signals, passenger will be happier with back rest. Problem soved. If you picked up a bag with shoulder strap it is easy to carry into hotel/motel whatever. Cost of rack and bag likely under a hundered. Even less if you can find used.

Yes you found the ones I have at Chase Harper. They are a little small for what you stated your requirements are now. You can only get a change of clothes in each one. Have to tie the tent on the back.
I still like the ones I have quite alot.
Yes mounting is easy with what they give you, and I didn't have to move anything (turn signals). My passengers have no real problems getting around the either (unless they have really short legs).

You don't have a picture, do you? I'd love to see what they look like on the bike

I'm having a really hard time finding any pictures of XS11's with bags.

These looked like they'd be close to working well. The slant gives the stock signals just enough room, I think:

                          Hey Maxim

A pic or two would be great. (I havent gone digital either ) I have been to the local shops and cant find any soft bags that will fit. Who needs blinkers anyway . But seriously I dont wanna be relocating em either!

There has to be a way.....

Here we go, I think I have this right. Here is a picture of my ride, with the saddle bags.

Hope you can see well enough. I will try to get another closer picture.
