my tach is acting up when i start it the needle goes all the way to 10 grand and sticks there till i shut it down. could this be a short or a bad connection. or could the po that had it before me wired it up wrong? thanks

The tach is run off of the alternator. The first thing I'd look at is the big white connector behind the fuse block mounting plate. Corrosion in that connector (assuming it's still there) can cause lots of issues. Either that or the actual connection at the alternator itself.1980 XS850SG - Sold

I would suspect something wonky inside the tach. Failure caused by the alternator would normally cause intermitent of none working, pegging I would most likely expect to be something electronic inside the tach itself.Cy
