  • JD is back on the road....

Hopefully, for a while, this time.

Put insurance on and did about 30 miles yesterday. It was running smooth, quiet and pulled fairly well until it started to bog and spit a bit.

I think one of the diaphragm repairs I did may have let go.

I am going to put it's carbs (now on the SG) back on and see what happens.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Put Junkyard Dog's own carbs back on, and it's running great.

Took it for about 180kms today, and it started making a horrible squeal.

So, I unhooked the speed o cable, rode it home and lubed it again!
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Don't forget to lube the speedo as well! I've had one kill a brand new cable in about 75 feet. I now use a "straw" and shoot silicon lube into the bearing. It's just a bronze bushing, really, so a lube of some type is NEEDED after this much time.

It's actually the speedo that I lubed. It dries out at the bushing where the cable goes in. A dab of lubi-plate and it's fine.

I killed 2 cables last year.

Just put a dab of grease on the tip of your left forefinger and put it where the cable goes in, then put the cable on. The grease sucks up into the bushing.

Fixed the oil leak. SOFCA was leaking at the o-ring, I need to figure out a way to tighten it without the washer. The nut is chamfered and so is my socket, so I can only tighten it so far. There isn't enough room to fit a socket into the depression where the nut goes.

I now have NO leaks, not even the CCT!

Will be doing about 1200kms this weekend, so get to really run her through the gears.

Put about 900kms on JD this weekend, Ride for Sight run.

Averaged 42-45mpg. Used about 2/3litre of oil. Runs good, good power in the low and mid range, tops out about 180kph.

Makes a vibration/noise at partial throttle, when I am trying to hold a steady speed at 4000-4500rpm. More or less throttle, no noise.

On the way home, after about 300kms it started acting like it was running out of fuel on cyl 4. I filled it with gas, it ran good for about another 130kms then started bogging down again, then smoothed out.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

I washed it, so my friends wouldn't bug me at this year's ride for site rally!
