  • Idle Speed

Now that I have corrected my problem with the bike hanging at 2500 rpm or higher when the throttle is blipped.... I have noticed that when cold and full or part choked.... the idle is very low... like 500 rpm or less. This doesn't seem to change until I have ridden for 15 or 20 minutes.... then it idles at about 1100 rpm. Until I have warmed the bike up for at least 5 minutes.... it refuses to idle at all.

After taking another ride thru the mountains.... I have noticed the bike bogs and stutters in higher gears as load increases like when going up a small hill. It appears to occur in the 3k to 4k range. Off the line.... the bike performs well unless I really crank on the throttle from a slow moving start. Cruising at 35 or slower in any gear is fine..... but from 35 to around 50 ANY increase in load causes the bike to start stuttering. Once above 50 mph it is downright scary the way it pulls. On the stand in neutral... the rpm increase as I crank on the throttle is good but really catches and screams just past 3500 rpm. There is no longer any hang as I release the throttle and let it snap back. It returns to a steady idle quite quickly.

My guess is the low speed jetting is a bit lean. You could try opening each idle screw a tiny bit to see if the condition changes. Another option would be to raise the float level. If you are running individual air filters, you may need to increase the size of the pilot jet.
