    gas mileage and speedo

    question 1, i fiiled my tank the other day and made it approx. 230 miles b4 the fuel lite came on, then another 20 on reserve til i found a gas station [sweated that out]. jsut wondering how the rest of you guys fair out on gas mileage.

    second, i have access to a speedometer from a 79 xs 650. wonderin iif it will wire to my 80 1100??

    Red - I average around 33mpg in mixed highway/city driving. Best I ever got was 44mpg with all highway driving. 230 miles sounds pretty outrageous for a MNS with the small tank. You sure your odometer is working right? That's like 60 mpg if it's right!

      I usually average about 30mpg and with my special I'm looking around for fuel by the time my tripometer hits 100 miles. If I push my luck and use my reserve, which I try very hard not to do, I can get about 120-130 miles out of a tank. Sounds like your odometer is not reading right to me.

        Supposedly all the XS speedos are interchangeable. Don't rely on the accuracy though. I have a 160 speedo on my 81 and it is off by up to 10 in places.

          i think so too

          beards and leaves...i think you are both rite, thats why my second question is about the speedo. mine's wizzin and jumpin all over the place.

            250 miles on a Special tank?

            That's over 60MPG.

            They's some wizzin happening somewhere, fer sure.

              Yeah... Your speedo's not too accurate there. If it's jumping, there is something wrong inside. I just filled my MNS yesterday and did the math on the MPG. I got 30 MPG on that tank, but that's because it's been all slow, in-town riding. When I hit the slab, I have gotten up to 33. I usually get about 115 miles before I start to worry about finding a gas station.

                you all are rite

                i mapqwested my start point and pre-reserve point and got approx. 123 miles. i kinda thought something wasn't rite, but i had taken so many stops i kinda lost track.
