Well, I have the opposite issue I think. I will have to bring my GPS on a ride when it returns with SWMBO. I am almost certain I am going 75 when I am reading 65.

My SG clocks exactly with the radar signs I pass. All of them have been in 25 or 35 mph zones, so I don't know for sure if I'm on at higher speeds. I'm also running a Cat-Eye bycicle speedo that's dialed in with the stock unit.
Swapped in an 850 drive. Got 47.3 mpg driving through the Coast Range in a clump of 50 mph cages. Full Pacifico, bags and top trunk. Got 36 mpg on the flip, running 60 into a head wind. Most tanks, local driving, 55 max speed limit, I get 42-44 mpg. Good mod. Makes the three middle gears a lot more useful on the twisty coastal roads.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. I got it installed tonight. It was very straight forward and the rocker arm bushing worked great. I was unable to ride it tonight so I will have to wait till tomorrow.
My one oops was with installing the pinon nut. I installed the 1/2" washer, then the stock washer, and then the nut (to 75 ft lbs). I just realized now that in the tech article he didn't reinstall the factory washer after the 1/2" washer. It looked like the nut was all the way on the threads when I installed it. Do I have to take it all apart again or should I be ok?
I can't wait to take the beast for a spin even though the high is supposed to be only 45 tomorrow.
Thanks again for the great info here!1980 XS1100 Standard "Touring"

The weather was finally got enough to go out and ride today. I have to say this is the best mod ever for the XS. I really love how it runs going down the highway now, not to mention that other gears are actually useful now.
I have to say thank you for everyone that played a hand in figuring this modification out.1980 XS1100 Standard "Touring"
