I've woken up the sleeping giant.

I wrote on these forums awhile back looking for some advice on what was wrong with XS-1100 that I inherited. The bike was an attempted restoration that was never completed. The bike was almost completely disassembled. After finding this site and posting a few times, I was pointed to the right direction. (Thanks TopCat.) Turns out the bike had a bad TCI box, which I bought from cokeman (thank you too.) Apart from the TCI being bad, the carbs really needed to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. Put a new battery, added oil and the bike started right up. Sounds like a sewing machine.

    A couple of questions:

1 - The brakes were modified so the hand brake only operates the front brake and the the foot brake operates the rear. Should I leave it as is?

2 - I buy my car tires online, is there a comparable site to get them online? What type of tires do you folks put on your XS's?

    Thanks again.

The 81 Midnite Specials had linked brake systems from the factory, IIRC. It's fine to leave them unlinked. There are tons of sites to buy tires from; I use Bridgestone Spitfire S'11's and get them from ChaparralMotorsports.com
