  • Simple (I hope) turn signal question.

I just got a pair of front turn signals for my bike today ('80 Standard), and had a bit of a "duh" question. One (the left) blinker came with two wires, the right only came with one. Is this supposed to be how it is, or did I get gypped and going to have to crack out the soldering iron to put an extra wire on?
    Currently XS-less.

Hey Lucien, not familiar with the standard units, but on my special, the turn signal has one wire that runs through the middle of the mounting bolt (a hole though the center of bolt). They mount to the headlight bucket through the ears. Inside the headlight bucket is a hot or positive wire to each turn signal that connects to the wire in the bolt, there is also a ground or black wire that has a circular ring connector that slides onto the bolt and is held tight by the mounting nut.

Microfiche of the standard for 81 looks like the same setup. Is one of the wires on the one with two that ground wire just still bolted on?

Some of the bikes had running lights. I am not sure which ones did. It sounds like you have a frankenbike, one side has the extra wire with the 1157 receptacle that runs a dual filament 1157 bulb and the other side is for the 1156 single filament bulb.

Not sure which years or models used either. Mine is an 81 special and it only has the 1156 single filament bulbs.
      Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.
