Went in to my local Yamaha shop to day, posted labor cost for cleaning carbs; $108 per carb/ syncing carbs $72.00. Glad I can do my own. LOL. Later 'Dog

dog - Am I understanding you correctly - $432 to clean four carbs and another 72 to synch? That's over $500!!!! Do they charge you extra if you need parts, or do they throw in free bowl gaskets to every sucker, er, customer? Even if the dealership put a full mark on it, that's still outrageous. Good news for shade tree mechanics, though - I feel better already .

WOW...and the "Gansta Garage" only cost ya a six pack!!! What a bargain!!

I am sure you could find a more reasonable fee at a local independent shop. But not less than $300 I would bet, and I suspect nothing under $70 for a synch. I would think they have to have the price setup for a cleaning such that they are covered when the folks bring in carbs with old fuel basically solidified in the bowl and passages and they have to play holy h@ll getting things loosened up to come out. JMHO.

BTW the main jets they put in are 130's ,supposed to be 137.5 for a '78.
It ran like crap.I just got new kits in yesterday from georgefix. So I will be redoing their mistake. But hey I got a good bike for $400.

I was told to take out the diaphrams and soak the whole lot in diesel. It works well and only cost a gallon of diesel! All the crud comes off fairly easy and a small brush to get those little awkward places

How'd you get all the diesel out of it? Just let it air dry?

Also did you remove the notorious butterfly valve shaft seals? I wouldn't think diesel would do anything to them, but who knows.
