  • Need help with XS/XJ 1100 CD-ROM

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Rob Mills? A friend has recently purchased a neglected and broken XJ1100 and we really need a copy of the reference CD. Friend emailed him on 3/23 then followed up on 4/24. If someone has personal contact with Rob we sure would appreciate it if you would alert him that we are trying to get in touch. Maybe Rob could respond to this thread. Thanks.

Most email accounts won't let you send/recieve files larger than 10mb. If you set up a free email account at Google (Gmail.com) and private message me with the address, I can send you that file on PDF format for the XJ. Gmail lets you send files larger than that 10mb limit.

        Hey folks,

I just checked the stats, and RockJok/Rob Mills was on the site today! Instead of trying to email him, you could also try PM'ing him.

He provides and sells this CD, it was his project many years ago, and he donates the proceeds to a local animal shelter or such!

The XJ manual alone that has been gotten is a different story.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I figured out how to PM, and sent one. I am really (!) computer stupid. If I don't get a response from Rob I may take up the download offer.

            Hello All,

I apologize at being remiss regarding the CDROM. I've recently moved, had a death in the family, and had a total crash of my computer. (actually had smoke cominig out of the hard drive) In addition I now have to go thru' gmail to keep my email address since my old service provider is in a battle with qwest dsl. Now that my new system is up and running I'll make sure I can have some CDs available ready this weekend, 5-25-2009.

The CD idea originated with the old mailing list in ~1998 with a bunch of the list members in the US, UK, and Australia doing most of the scanning. I made an html interface and indexes to make accessing the topics a bit easier but it is a bit amateurish compared to what's out there today. All the proceeds over cost go to the Humane Society except in 2004 when I used it to help subsidize Camp XS in Bozeman.

There is a member here that has a PDF copy of the XS manual available for download (CatatonicBug). It seems to have very clear scans compared to some of the older ones on the CD. Hopefully he will chime in here with a link to his website, I don't want to post it without his permission.

Here is a snip from the CD information file with ordering info at the end. Again, Sorry for the slow response to requests.

            Rob

            <snip>
The CD contains 1250+ pages and is ~600 MB. All the files are in the root directory of the CD so it should work well on both PC and Mac systems. An internet browser and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader are required for navigating the indexes. Topics included on the CD are:

1978 E model Factory Service Manual
            1979 F model supplement
            1979 SF model supplement
            1980 G model supplement
            1980 SG model supplement
            1981 H model supplement
            1981 SH model supplement
            1981 SG model supplement
            Multilingual Shaft drive manual
            1982 XJ Factory Service Manual
            1982 XJ parts microfiche
            1979 SF model parts microfiche
            1980 LG model parts microfiche
            1981 H model parts microfiche
            1981 SH model parts microfiche
            1980 LG model owners manual
            Vetter Fairing Manual and Supplements
            Wiring diagrams for all models

The CDs won't have much for labeling and may be shipped in recycled jewel cases.

The price is $10.00 US (includes postage) and, since this a NON-PROFIT enterprise, all money over the cost of production will be donated to the Gallatin Valley Humane Society. If you want to send more it will be contributed directly. This animal shelter has a non-kill policy and does a fantastic job finding homes for the critters.

            To order:
-- PLEASE send an email to rockjok@imt.net with your request and complete shipping address. (I use these for labels and order tracking)

-- PLEASE wait until you get an email reply before sending payment, sometimes I'm out of town for a couple weeks at a time.

-- Then include your shipping address and email address with your payment. (Folks outside the US may want to chance sending cash rather than spending a bunch extra on an international money order). I have received money orders with no name or address on them - that makes it hard to know who to send the CD to!

-- If you haven't received the CD in a reasonable amount of time after sending your payment(10-12 days?), email me and I'll try and figure out what went wrong.

            My address is:
            Rob Mills
            PO Box 1174
            Three Forks, MT

I just have the OEM and Clymers manuals for the XS's. Nothing for the XJs though. I know you're trying to help out a worthy cause, so I hope I'm not stepping on your toes. The Clymers manual I host is actually set up with OCR, so you can search for words in Adobe reader, but the OEM manual is not set that way (poorer quality scans).

              1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08

Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).
