  • How to neuter your XS

I put a really nice set of Jardine spaghetti pipes on today that Russ sold me. They really look nice, and I was able to polish them up fairly well. They look quite nice on the special.

    BUT....

They really cut the top end. My Cherry Bomb exhaust really pulled hard all the way to redline. Now it gets really anemic at about 7k.

    HOWEVER....

It is really quiet. I love that. I can ride without long term hearing loss.

All in all I am happy. Thanks Russ!

Going from a 4-1 to the Jardine spagetti pipes you will likely need to rejet. My understanding is that the Jardines work best on stock jetting.

Didn't you just rejet to get the cherry bomb working right? Must be a glutton for punishment.

I put the Jardines on my E. It has the K&N filter in the airbox. I increased the main jet one size and it runs strong. After that I added Dyna coils and it just got better (one step cooler spark plugs than stock).

          Mine

Ran fine with stock jetting and a 4 to 1.
          I have a drilled airbox.
I installed a set of spaghettis and now I think it wants a bigger main.

Presently, I have had to open up the screws to three turns from 1 3/4, and close up the extra airbox ventilation.

It still has an awkward spot at 4 to 5 KRPM, and is getting soggy on the bottom end.

These tubes are not quiet at all. I don't know if they have had any baffles removed or not. But they sound cool.

Firstly, I need to make clear that I am not griping about the exhaust. My attempts at humor get so dry I end up looking like an azzhat. I really do like the exhaust, and I am really thankful for Russ helping me out.

Harry, I have been messing around with jetting on the low end. Typically exhause back pressure has the greatest effect in high load (high exhaust volume) situations. The exhaust hasnt really changed the low end at all, still trying to iron out the low end stumble.

I still have the 120 main jets, and I think it is about right, TBH. On the cherrybomb it still felt a tad flat, and I would have tried some 125s, but now it feels better, just doesnt pull as hard above 7k.

It still runs like a scalded cat though, and the lower noise is just awesome. I cant wait for the next long trip WITHOUT ringing ears!

You know the old saying,... if the azzhat fits...

just doesnt pull as hard above 7k.
You only need to run up there when riding in the twisties with us anyway, don't you? lol. Honestly.. it may not be a bad thing. It may help the longevity of the motor if you CAN'T run up to redline.

So that way you can hear the banjo music PROPERLY.

                Sheesh...bad timing.

Oh no, you couldn't get those on the bike before you blew past me a 100+ Saturday morning, pipes wailing. Now my ears ring, my tonsils have shrapnel damage, my knuckles are bruised. All from the sonic blast of a Mach 1 Ivan.
