  • Starter engages while in gear without clutch pulled in

Today I noticed again that I can start the bike while in gear without pulling in the clutch handle. Could prove disasterous in the wrong circumstances. Any suggestions.?
Neutral light works (lights up) when in neutral. Been this way ever since I've had this bike ~ 1 year or so.
    Thanks for the help...

These bikes don't have a clutch/gear safety feature so you have to be careful. If you put it in neutral when you shut it off, you shouldn't have any surprises next time you're ready to ride. Only the XJ's have a safety feature. HTH

I'm gald it works that way. I always put the bike in neutral as I dismount. So when I walk up to it, I start it before I get on it, and put on my gear while it's warming up. I turn the key and check the neutral light just to be safe before pressing the starter button.

Well I parked on a hill and left it in gear. I hit the starter button and it jumped forward. My stupidity for not remembering. No disaster thank goodness!

The old goldwings i have wont do this and I was use to them, I was off the bike and started it and there is a little bit of a down hill to the door, like it had a mind of its own.

I never put it in Neutral as I dont want the bike rolling without me!! As heavy as these are it won't take much of a hill for it to decide to roll when you least expect it, leaving it in gear will prevent that. No different than a stick shift car, I've never left them out of gear when I leave it.

I believe it's a good idea to get in the habit of pulling in the clutch before you start.Even if you're already in neutral. It's easier on the starter and harder to get yourself in trouble.

I had a bike roll off the side stand once. It wiped out the clutch perch about 100 miles from the house. Not fun.

I always park in gear. Plus you can start it without that first thing in the morning ca-chunck.
